Guys, it’s all good.
Donald Trump has officially announced that he thinks the current president was born in the United States. This is news because just a few years ago, Trump got quite a bit of mileage out of the idea that Barack Obama was actually born in Kenya (or elsewhere outside the United States), which would make him ineligible to serve as president.
Trump trolled reporters with a press conference that was actually mostly about his hotel, but he did finally declare that he believes Obama to be a natural-born citizen. “President Barack Obama was born in the United States,” Trump said, “Period.” It’s good to have that cleared up.
For good measure, Trump and his campaign have claimed that Hillary Clinton started the birther movement (though the smear goes back to the 2008 primaries, it can’t be traced to Clinton herself). In Trump’s version, he was “the finisher” who finally put the issue to rest by wisely prompting Obama to release his birth certificate. In real life, Trump claimed that birth certificate was fake:
An ‘extremely credible source’ has called my office and told me that @BarackObama‘s birth certificate is a fraud.

But, whatever. It’s all good now.
